Kids + CYF Service Project
We're helping to make a difference in our community. Here's how. And how you can help too...
At Kids Plus, we want to be more than just a great pediatric practice; we want to be a presence in the communities we serve, and to offer a helping hand to families and people in need.
That’s why, throughout the month of May (which is National Foster Care Month), we’ll be working on a Kids + CYF Service Project to support teens aging out of foster care.
Between the ages of 18 & 21, young adults are discharged from the foster care system and expected to fend for themselves. As any parent of an older teen knows, young adults at this age still need the love, guidance, and financial support of their parents. But these youths, who've already experienced so much adversity in their lives, are expected to do it all on their own.
The Allegheny County Children, Youth, & Family Services Transition Program does all it can to help these young adults, but many areas of unmet need remain. In particular, there are few resources for discharged teens to purchase the basics they need to start a household -- things like personal care items and especially cleaning supplies.
So throughout the month of May, we'll be collecting these items at our offices, to donate to young adults in the Pittsburgh region who've aged out of care and need to set up a home of their own. Even small contributions can make a big difference in the lives of young persons just starting out!
CYF is unable to collect used items, due to health and hygiene concerns, so we'll be collecting BRAND NEW items such as:
• Household Cleaning Supplies
Cleaning powders or sprays; glass or toilet cleaners; mops, buckets, brooms, sponges; toilet or other scrub brushes.
• Kitchen Cleaning Supplies
Dish soap; dish towels and sponges.
• Personal Care Items
Toilet paper; toothpaste and toothbrushes; soap; shampoo; deodorant; razors and shaving cream.
You can bring any of these items to any Kids Plus office in the month of May. We'll collect them at our front desks, then donate everything we collect -- including many contributions from our own staff members -- at the end of the month.
We hope everyone in our great Kids Plus Community will join us in helping to make a difference in the lives of these young adults in need.
Thanks so much!
